In 1989 Pennine Ground Engineering was formed to develop and manufacture Pennine dynamic probes, the company grew when it began to design and manufacture high quality reliable hydraulically powered vibroflots. Growth continued with the sale of equipment to the Far East, soon Pennine equipment was being used in many parts of the world.

A move into the UK contracting market formed the launch pad for Pennine Vibropiling Ltd, this in turn lead to a systematic growth in the range of ground improvement and piling techniques introduced to the market.

At the same time the development of purpose built ground improvement rigs helped to consolidate this growth and Pennine has become the market leader in ground improvement technology and associated plant development.

The success of the former Pennine Group attracted the interest of the Balfour Beatty Group; they acquired Pennine from the founding partners in August 2005.
