Marine vibro is much the
same as conventional vibro on land in that it improves the relative
density of the soils and minimises the risk of sudden collapse.
The installation of stone
columns can be achieved in two ways:
|
 |
Stone is placed on
the seabed were treatment is required, the vibroflot then penetrates
through the stone into the seabed and hence pushes the stone into the
seabed densifying the soil. |
| |
|
 |
Alternatively, specially
adapted vibroflots, such as PENNINE's 'Aquacaster' vibroflot can be used.
Attached to the top of the vibroflot is a stone hopper. As the flot is
lowered to the level of the barge the hopper is filled with stone. The
flot can then be submerged and penetrate the seabed to design depth, the
stone is then introduced into the hole at the tip of the flot via a stone
tube attached to the hopper. As with Dry Bottom Feed Vibro, the column is
formed as the vibroflot is removed. |
