Vibro concrete plugs are an innovative hybrid of Vibro Stone Columns and Vibro Concrete Columns (see piling systems).

The vibroflot penetrates the ground as with other vibro methods, when it has reached design depth concrete is pumped from the tip of the vibroflot via a 125mm tremie tube attached to the flot, this in the right geological conditions, can provide a seal to prevent leaking of any surface contaminant down the columns into the aquifer. The vibroflot is then withdrawn a short distance and whilst maintaining pumping pressure re-penetrates to the original depth. The flot is then withdrawn continuously to 500mm above the concrete plug cut off depth with pumping pressure being maintained. At this depth the flot is removed and the installation of the stone columns can commence using the dry top feed method.

Why use Vibro Concrete Plugs?

to prevent migration of contamination down stone columns

to prevent the creation of further drainage paths in soluble strata

to bridge organic layers

What types of soil can be treated?

most types of fill

weak alluvial soils with shear strengths greater than 20Kn/m²

hydraulic fills
