Dry Top Feed Vibro Stone Columns are the simplest form of Vibro system. The vibroflot penetrates the weak soil or fill by its own weight, vibration and air flush. When it reaches design depth or refusal the flot is withdrawn and a charge of stone fill is introduced into the bore, the flot is then re-inserted and compacts the fill tightly into the surrounding strata. The column is constructed to ground level with successive charges of stone being compacted in a similar manner. Typically the stone grading is around 75-40mm.

The pokers can be free hanging from cranes or part of a leader rig, which are more commonly used in the UK. Crane mounted flots are still used where leader rigs are unable to travel, they can reach down embankments and operate in low headroom situations. Find out more about PENNINE's rigs on our equipment pages.
