Rapid Impact Compaction (RIC) utilises an 8 tonne hydraulic piling hammer repeatedly hitting a heavy 1-1.5m diameter steel foot. Repeated blows at each treatment position create imprints, which are subsequently filled with granular material and the pattern repeated at offset locations. Treatment depth is limited to around 3m and can generally be used within 10-15m of sound structures. RIC can also be combined with Vibro techniques to extend the treatment area closer to existing structures on urban sites. |
