Pennine Completes Home Job at Stirling

The Perfect Partnership

Local Success Continues

Welcome

We all had high hopes for Pennine when we first moved north of the border in 2004, and things are getting better and better!

Our work load in Scotland has grown substantially since establishing the base and the more work we carry out, the more we build our knowledge of regional ground conditions and the more contracts we gain. Our future order book is strong, not only with new customers but also a substantial amount of repeat business.

Our growing presence in Scotland comes at a time of considerable expansion for the company as a whole, and this positive news definitely justifies our investment in setting up the Stirling operation.

Bring on the next couple of months...

Pennine Completes Home Job at Stirling

Pennine has just completed a project for Stirling Council in Bannockburn, just down the road from our Scottish office in Stirling.

Working for main contractor Hadden Construction, the team installed 150 vibro stone columns to support the floor slab and main foundation of a community hall.

The top feed method was used to insert the stone columns on a technically demanding site tightly sandwiched between other public buildings.

Completed in July, the council project underpins Pennine’s growing reputation in Scotland since establishing the Stirling base, with the Scottish workload growing by more than 60 per cent over the last two-and-a-half years

Area manager Gavin Savage said: “Our growing presence in Scotland comes at a time of considerable expansion for the company as a whole, borne out of our ability to meet clients’ specific individual requirements.

“Lots of companies talk about tailor-made solutions but we have the evidence base to prove we are truly bespoke and it’s good to know we are getting that message across throughout the UK.

“Our future order book is strong, with a substantial amount of repeat business, which is always gratifying. We are obviously delighted with the increased performance, which more than justifies our investment in setting up the Stirling operation.”

The Perfect Partnership

Pennine is also benefiting from partnering projects with sister company Stent, who have an office in Balmore, Glasgow. By working closely together, the two companies provide a one-stop shop for piling and ground improvement projects.

Together we offer a formidable combination of knowledge for the complete range of piling and foundation techniques available.

We recently joined forces in phase two of the Pollock Shopping Centre development by Bovis. While Stent carried out piling to the main foundations, Pennine installed 1,600 vibro stone columns to achieve a floor slab bearing pressure of 25kN/sqm.

Local Success Continues

A further five contracts, all within a ten-mile radius of our Stirling base, have recently been secured by Pennine.

A substantial project to install 3,100 vibro stone columns (10,000 linear metres of stone column) for house builder Bett Homes was completed at Menstrie in August.

The columns were inserted for the main foundations of 90 new homes in Pennine’s second visit to the development, after completing phase one works earlier this year.

In September the team completed their second visit of a three phase project to a Bellway Homes residential development at Alloa, where it used the top feed method to insert 6,000 linear metres of stone column for the foundations of housing plots. We will return to carry out phase three of our work towards the end of the year.

And coming soon are three more residential contracts – two in Larbert for house builders David Wilson Homes and The Walker Group, and one for Ogilvie Homes at Denny.
